Knowledge of one or more foreign languages can be useful in a wide range of careers. Language skill is the main requirement for study abroad, some jobs such as translating, interpreting and language teaching.

Knowledge or skills may be needed for going abroad to study or job including other qualifications. For example, people with languages plus IT, law, finance or sales skills are much sought-after.

The primary skill you have gained on your course is your ability to communicate at a high level in another language together with the knowledge of that country and its life and culture.

However, the employers will be interested in the more general skills you have achieved. These are likely to include written and verbal communication (in English as well as in your other language's); analytical skills; initiative and self-reliance (developed through your years abroad); time management and personal organizational skills.

Translating is often of technical or specialist material and is likely to require further study. Many translators work on a freelance basis. Organizations employing staff translators include the international organizations; multinational companies; translation agencies; government bodies. Many translators are also self-employed.

Interpreting is a tiny and stressful career area, which can be difficult to break into on a full-time basis. Employers include international organizations but, many interpreters are freelancers as with translators.

Account BenefitTo become a subtitler, you must have an interest in language and excellent articulation. You need to be able to work well under pressure and have experience of working to tight deadlines. Degrees in languages or literature tend to be preferred.

Most of these job roles will value language skills and possessing them will potentially open up more opportunities in your career. You may not always have the opportunity to use them on a day-to-day basis as a new graduate, but be patient!

Approximately 10% of language graduates obtain their first job after graduation outside the country. This compares with less than 2% of graduates overall. Few of these jobs, though, are "career posts" - more often, they are seen as a way to live abroad for a little longer without necessarily offering any long-term prospects. Most recent graduates working abroad are, in fact, teaching English as a foreign language (although this can be a long-term career if the graduate wants).

You can start your language course in IML, Dhaka University or British Council for English. Institute of Modern Language at Dhaka University will be the better place for different language courses. Alliance Fran?aise in Dhaka will be the best place for learning French. Goethe Institute, Dhaka for the German language. Russian Culture Center and Iran Culture Center for their own languages.
