Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (Sinhalese: ශ්‍රී ලංකා තොරතුරු තා‌ක්ෂණ ආයතනය, Tamil: இலங்கை தகவல் தொழில்நுட்ப நிறுவனம்) also popularly known as SLIIT is a non-state higher education and degree granting institute in Sri Lanka.[2][3] It was founded in 1999 in response to rapid development of the IT industry in the country in 90's.[4] The institute was established by the government of Sri Lanka.[5][6][7] It has two campuses and four centres. The main campus is in Malabe, 16 km from Colombo. It also has a metropolitan campus in Colombo, the island's largest city. SLIIT is accredited as a degree awarding institute under the Universities Act of Sri Lanka,[8][9] and offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in computing, business and engineering with the consent of University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka. SLIIT is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities and International Association of Universities.[1] It enrolls approximately 7000 undergraduate and graduate students.[1]
