Dr. Mahfuzul Haque new CIU VC

Dr. Mahfuzul Haque Chowdhury, a renowned professor of Political Science, Chittagong University and former faculty member of Northeastern University, USA has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong Independent University (CIU).

Dr. Chowdhury was born at Padua Union in Lohagara Upazila of Chittagong in 1953. He received his PhD degree in Law & Public Policy from Northeastern University, Boston, USA in 1992. Later, he obtained his post doctoral degrees from Duke University, USA in 2013, from Tokyo University, Japan in 2006 and from University of Southern Illinois, USA in 2000.

He has published about 40 research papers in national and international journals and is the author of many scholarly books. Dr. Chowdhury was awarded Senior Fulbright Fellowship by Dept of State, USA in 2012, Japan Foundation Fellowship by Govt of Japan in 2005, Senior Fulbright Fellowship, USA in 2000, and Salzburg Seminar Fellowship in 1998.

Account BenefitHe was also awarded Chittagong University Chancellor's Gold Medal in 1976 for his brilliant result. Apart from teaching, Dr Chowdhury discharged responsibilities as Director, Social Science Research Institute, Chairman of Political Science Dept, Member of Advanced Studies and Academic Council at CU, UGC-nominated Syndicate Member and Academic Council Member in private universities.

He has the experience of working as Consultant in UNDP and the World Bank. His only daughter is pursuing PhD degree in Clemson University, USA.
