Case Filed Against 300 JU Students

Around 300 students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) were sued on August 3, 2012 in two separate cases filed in connection with violence of August 2, 2012 on the campus.

Ashulia police filed one case accusing eight named and the rest unnamed with the police station on charge of impeding police form performing duties during the violence. Moreover, Police filed another case with Savar Police Station against 10 to 12 named and the rest unnamed on charge of obstructing them from performing duties during the incident.

However, none was arrested in connection with the cases.

The authorities on August 2, 2012 declared to close JU till August 25, 2012 following clash between police and students.

The authorities also asked the male students to leave their residential halls within 6:00 pm on August 2, 2012 and the female students 9:00 am on August 3, 2012.

Meanwhile, the JU authority will hold a press conference at JU Senate Hall on August 4, 2012 over the violence of August 2, 2012 on the campus and police firing on students.

Residential students of the university have already vacated their dormitories as per the direction of the university authorities.

On early August 3, 2012, Kazi Johra Begum, mother of Likhon, filed a case with Savar Police Station around 12:30pm against 10 named, including Riaz, Liton and Nahid, and 20 unnamed persons.
