RU Students Deprived of Hall Libraries
The residential students of the Rajshahi University (RU) are by and large remaining deprived of the hall library facilities. They are being deprived of library facilities in the halls due to unscheduled closure of the libraries and lack of books and space in the reading rooms.
The students and functionaries of both male and female halls claim that, the hall libraries are remaining closed because of shortage of academic and other books. And there is no appointed librarian or such other specific persons to look into the matter.
According to the residential students, the libraries and reading rooms of 10 out of 16 halls remain closed most of the time while the remaining six open without any fixed schedule.
Sources said the hall authorities get a small fund (Tk 1500) from the central library, in addition to allocation from university administration and collection of student fees to develop hall libraries, there is no specific system to develop and run the hall libraries, the sources said pointing to the poor condition of hall libraries.
RU central library sources said, the respective hall authorities get allocation every year from the university administration, besides collection of library fees from students. But the hall authorities do not use the money properly.
