BUET Teachers Postpone Quit Program

The protesting teachers of Bangladesh University of Science & Technology (BUET) on July 21, 2012 announced to put off their decision to quit en masse until July 30, 2012.

The teachers, however, decided to continue with their two-hour long daily sit-in programme in front of the university's academic building from 11am to 1pm demanding removal of the Vice Chancellor and the Pro-Vice Chancellor.

Earlier, on July 16, the association threatened to resign en masse if BUET VC Prof SM Nazrul Islam and Pro-VC Prof M Habibur Rahman do not quit by 4:00pm, 22nd July, 2012.

Also, former VCs and alumni members had requested the association to reconsider the en masse resignation programme, saying the government was making headway in bringing a solution.

The teachers and students of BUET had been demonstrating for long demanding resignation of the university's two top officials alleging irregularities.
