The students of Dhaka College and City College infuriated by previous enmity staged violent street protests and vandalized at least 20 vehicles near their institutions on Tuesday, creating panic on their campuses.
The incident sparked around 10:00am Tuesday when several hundred Dhaka College students took to the busy city streets demanding punishment of the offenders who stabbed their fellow students, said Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Dhanmondi Police Station.
During their road blockade, the protesters vandalized 10 vehicles by picketing during the blockade. They also vandalized some windowpanes of Dhaka City College by throwing brick chips, making its students agitated.
Protesting their college attack, Dhaka City College students also came to the street in the area and put barricades and vandalized several vehicles.
To control the situation, law enforcers hurriedly moved in and charged batons to disperse the agitating students of both colleges to avert further trouble.
A chase and counter-chase also took place between law enforcers and the students during the period.
A meeting was held between the two principals of the colleges regarding the standoff of their students.
