Case Filed by MC College Authorities 5 Days After BCL-Shibir Clash

Sylhet MC College authorities on July 13, 2012 filed a case accusing unnamed offenders for setting a college dormitory on fire five days after the incident took place. By watching photographs and videos, investigation committee has identified 26 leaders and activists in this matter.

Earlier, Hostel superintendent Bashir Ahmed filed the case with the Shah Paran police station for setting the fire which burnt 42 rooms in three blocks of the student dormitory on the night of July 8.

At least 40 leaders of the student and youth fronts of ruling Awami League were made accused in a separate case which was filed following factional clashes that took place after the MC College dormitory was set ablaze. Among the accused were leaders of Juba League, Chhatra League and Sylhet City Corporation ward councillor Azadur Rahman Azad, former-Chhatra League leader Ranjit Sarker and its district president Pankaj Purakayastha.

However, 5 days ago some 50 leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir were sued on Monday for their alleged involvement in Sunday’s clash between Chhatra League and Chhatra Shibir of MC College unit.
