JU Students Demanded Congenial Atmosphere
|
Jahangirnagar University (JU) students under the banner `Sontrasher Biruddhe Jahangirnagar `brought out a protest rally on campus which started from Amar Equshey premises and ended at the Shaheed Minar to press for their four-point demand including immediate polls to the JU Central Students' Union (JUCSU).
They also demanded for taking proper steps to free JU dormitories from criminal activities and ensuring security of students, immediate trial of murderers of Zubair Ahmed, an English department student who died in a factional clash of Bangladesh Chhatra League on the campus on January 9 this year, and punishment of the culprits who attacked cultural activists during agitation against irregularities of the university's former vice-chancellor Prof Shariff Enamul Kabir on April 28.
Moreover, JU authority issued directives for the students to ensure congenial atmosphere and security on the campus following some recent unpleasant incidents.
The directives include - only students can stay in dormitories, those students who admitted on children quota will not be able to stay in the halls in accordance of the admission conditions and a student of a hall cannot stay in another one.
The directive also informed that, the students will have to leave halls within seven days after completion of their masters' examinations and the students, who have already completed masters' degree, cannot stay anymore in the dormitories.
For any reason those who have failed to stay in the halls, they have to apply in the directed form which can be collected from the hall office. Hall authority will decide about their staying after the authority gets the application.
