Physical, mental development of students

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on June 26, 2016 called upon teachers, guardians and others concerned to take care of the physical and mental development of students along with their studies.

He made the call addressing the inaugural session of a workshop of 'Gender Breakthrough' project at International Mother Language Institute at Shegunbagicha in the city.

The project on awareness of adolescence health covers Dhaka city, Barisal city, Patuakhali and Barguna districts, from where headmasters of 300 schools and superintendents of 50 madrasas took part in the workshop.

Education Secretary M. Sohrab Hossain also addressed the inaugural function with Director General of Department of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Professor Fahima Khatun in the chair.

Dutch charg, d'affaires Martine Van Hoogstraten, UNFPA Representative Argentina Matavel Piccin and Project Director Dr. Mohammad Jahangir Hossain spoke on the occasion, said an official release.

Account BenefitThe education minister said the number of girl students has increased in educational institutions because of different programs undertaken by the government in the last few years for expansion of female education. Initiatives have been taken to ensure environment conducive to female students in educational institutions, he added.

Nahid said the government is giving importance to sports and cultural activities in educational institutions round the year for physical and mental fitness of the students.

'Generation Breakthrough' project is working with the help of Plan Bangladesh and UNFPA with a fund of Taka 18 crore provided by the Dutch government.
