Govt Revises Decision to Suspend 3 Pvt Medical Colleges

Suspension call off for 3 medicals

In view of ongoing studies and future of the students, the government has revised its decision to suspend the activities of three private medical colleges for violating rules.

A health ministry release on June 16, 2016 said it has been decided that the academic activities of the existing students will continue considering the humanitarian aspects and public interest.

This amendment to the previous decision was made at the directive of Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim. However, the suspension order on enrollment of students in those medical colleges in next academic year, 2016-17, will remain in force.

In a meeting at Bangladesh Secretariat to review the performance of private medical colleges on June 12, the activities of Northern Medical College in Rangpur, City Medical College in Gazipur and Nightingale Medical College in Ashulia were suspended.

Account BenefitThat meeting also suspended enrollment of students in Southern Medical College in Chittagong in upcoming academic year 2016-17 and reduced the number of seats in BGC Trust Medical College of the same district to 75 from 125 for violating rules. This decision of the meeting will remain in force.

The government took the decisions as the overall academic environment, number of hospital beds and patients and quality of services were not satisfactory to meet the conditions in private medical college rules, according to the health ministry release.
