DU students protests metro rail route

Students of Dhaka University (DU) have announced a cartoon exhibition on February 11, 2016 protesting the proposed metro rail route that passes through the university campus.

The announcement was made from a press conference at the Madhur Canteen on February 06, 2016 (Saturday). Addressing the briefing, Uzma Tazrian, a student of law department also an organizer of the protest program said, "The cartoon exhibition will be held at the compound of the Institute of Fine Arts of DU at 12:00 pm on February 11."

Uzma Tazrian also said that a mass signature collection program, in favor of the students' demand for changing proposed rail route, would continue. "More than 12,000 people have already expressed solidarity with our movement by putting in their signatures", she added.

Account BenefitThe protesters said at the press briefing that they were not against the country's infrastructural development, but the metro rail route passing through the Dhaka University campus would give rise to a host of problems including hampering the sound atmosphere of education.

On January 28, protesters submitted a memorandum to the university's Vice-Chancellor, demanding change of the proposed rail route. Earlier, on January 20, the students observed a mass sit in the same demand.
