KU 5th convocation held

The 5th convocation of Khulna University (KU) held amid festivity. President Abdul Hamid also the Chancellor of the university addressed the function as the chief guest.

The Chancellor underscored the need for more investment in education sector for improving its quality. "Although the rate of education has been increased, its quality is yet to reach the expected level. So, the investment in the sector has to be raised", he said while addressing the 5th convocation of Khulna University (KU) on its campus.

"In this context, I want to mention a quotation from noble laureate Kailash Satyarthi. Kaisah said, "The return from the investment in education is nine times. It's possible to achieve the return through establishing knowledge-based society apart from imparting quality education", he added.

Stressing the need for conducting more research, the President said the knowledge acquired through a successful research can bring boundless welfare to mankind.

"Research is a matter of continuous efforts and needs huge money. I urge the government and especially the University Grants Commission to allocate more money and other assistance to conduct research", said Abdul Hamid.

Account BenefitMentioning that the Khulna region is rich with world heritage Sundarbans and huge coastal areas endowed with marine resources, he urged the researchers of the university to conduct research on the biodiversity and valuable marine resources.

The President also urged the university teachers to be more attentive to the students not confining their responsibilities to classroom lectures only.

University Grants Commission Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan, VC of KU Professor Dr Mohammad Fayek Uzzaman addressed it while Educationist and Emeritus Professor of Dhaka University Anisuzzaman delivered convocation speech.

Earlier, Abdul Hamid inaugurated the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall on the campus. A total of 4529 students received degrees at the convocation while 14 students were given gold medals for their outstanding performance.
