Nobel Laureate Harold Varmus Delivers Speech at IUB
Winner of the 1989 Nobel Prize for Medicine Harold Varmus delivered a speech at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) in the capital.
Cancer is on the rise especially in less developed countries and the number of deaths from cancer will be 11 million by 2030 around the world, said the Nobel Laureate Harold Varmus on November 22, 2015.
"The number of deaths from cancer was around five million in 2005 and now it is around nine million and it rising", he said. Harold Varmus, also a co-chair of American president Barack Obama's council of advisors on science and technology, emphasized public health as well as treatment of advanced cancer.

Several hundred students of Independent University attended the program while Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's international affairs advisor Gowher Rizvi and the university Vice-Chancellor M. Omar Rahman also spoke at the program.
