First ICDE conference at DU

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said expanding education of information and communication technology was essential to face the global challenges of the twenty-first century.

The minister made the remark at a day-long international conference on digital education arranged by the Department of Development Studies, Dhaka University (DU), and BacBon Foundation jointly.

DU Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the conference at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban in DU on September 02, 2015.

Nahid convened the young people to develop themselves as skilled human resources to make Bangladesh a modern country. Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique urged them to work hard to break all barriers in achieve the vision of Digital Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Bank (BB) governor Dr. Atiur Rahman has said the financial institutions must spend one-third of their CSR funds for educational purposes. "Corporate social responsibility (CSR) fund must be spent for education purposes, including providing scholarship to students from disadvantaged families living in remote areas like chars and haors", the central bank governor has said while addressing a program at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the Dhaka University campus.

Account BenefitBacBon Foundation, BacBon Ltd. and Center on Budget and Policy of DU jointly organized the program - the 'First International Conference on Digital Education (ICDE)'. Dr. M. Abu Eusuf, director of the centre, presided over the program. Dr Atiur said the educational CSR support was about Tk. 234 crore in 2014 and first half of 2015.

Besides, he said, the BB has provided regulatory space for developing e-commerce, outsourcing, and software development, which are enabling thousands of youths to get jobs and motivating some of them to emerge as successful entrepreneurs.

Appreciating the conference organizers, he said it's very heartening to see that alongside the government and private initiatives, the young generation is also taking many innovative initiatives to materialize the dream of 'Digital Bangladesh. He also appreciated the BacBon Foundation for its support to the disadvantaged students and their teachers in distant rural areas in terms of providing quality education lessons through multimedia facilities under its 'e-Education Project'.
