Lifetime expel for ragging at JU

Two first year students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) allegedly fall sick for ragging. It was happened at the Department of Bangla and the Department of Geography and Environment on March 30, 2015 (Monday).

Students said that the first year students of the Al-Beruni hall of the University were ragged till late night on Sunday. Many students were unable to sleep at night for this. Then in the morning on Monday, Bangla department student Masud Rana went to the class. The senior students again ragged him there at 11:00 am.

At one stage of ragging, he fell unconscious. Later he was taken to the university medical center. Then he was sent to Enam Medical College & Hospital at Savar after the initial treatment.

Similarly, at around 11:00 am, first-year student Ishtiaq Khan fell unconscious due to the ragging of senior students of Geography and Environment department. He was also sent to Enam Medical College & Hospital at Savar after the initial treatment at university medical center.

Account BenefitProctor Tapan Kumar Saha said, it could not be confirmed that the Bangla department student fell unconscious due to ragging or not.

They found that the student of Geography and Environment department was physically sick before. Action will be taken surely if we get any complain of ragging.

The university administration has taken steps to prevent ragging at the university campus, residence halls and departments. Public Relations office of the university informed that in a press statement. The students were asked to refrain from ragging.

The statement also mentioned that the lifetime expel including harsh punishment according to the Disciplinary Ordinance of the University will be given to the directly or indirectly involved students in ragging.
