Enrich Bangla Word in Google begins at Dhaka University

Google Translate A-Thon at DU

A three-day long 'Google Translate A-Thon' launched at Dhaka University (DU) on February 23, 2015 (Monday). The initiative of Google Developer Group Bangla (GDG Bangla) will continue till February 25, 2015.

The program is being held at the Linguistics Department of Dhaka University. Chairman of the Linguistic Department, Professor Hakim Arif; General Secretary of Bangladesh Open Source Network, Munir Hasan; Google Country Engineering Consultant, Khan Md. Anwarus Salam; and Manager of GDG, Javed Sultan Piyash spokes on the launching event.

Lecturers of the Linguistic Department Mashrur Imtiaz and Shanta Tawhida; Head of Esho.Com's Social Media and Communications, Md. Polash Hossain and GDG Bangla's Communication Associate, Rahitul Islam among others were attended the program.

Account Benefit"We have taken the initiative to include 2 lakh words to Google translate in February", said Munir Hasan. "We want to go beyond this and include 10 lakh words by the Bengali new year", he added.

Manager of GDG Bangla, Javed Sultan explained the details about how Bangla words can be included in Google Translate. With the slogan of 'Bangla beyond Borders', GDG Bangla began their functionality from last December to enrich and spread Bangla on the internet.

Bangladesh Open Source Network (BDOSN), Esho.Com and HiFiPublic.Com are the partners of this program. Interested individuals can tag along with GDG Bangla and help enrich Bangla in Google Translate.
