Dhaka city to get 11 new schools and 6 new colleges. The proposed implementation time is June 2016.

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in its 18th meeting of the current fiscal year is likely approve a project for establishment of 11 schools and six colleges in Dhaka city to meet the growing demand for educational institutions in the capital city.

The government has estimated a total of Tk. 435 crore for the project. It aims to widen enrollment opportunities, provide education materials by improving infrastructures, enhance quality education and increase education facilities for students in schools and colleges in the capital city.

The project was amended twice in July 2010 due to increase in expenditures as academic buildings of 17 institutions will now be six storied instead of the earlier plan for four-storied ones and an outlay of Tk. 28 lakh has been fixed for Shaheed Minar construction on each of the campuses.

Account BenefitEstimates for boundary wall and internal road construction have been increased respectively to Tk. 203.20 lakh and Tk. 108.85 lakh.

The project activities include land acquisition and development, academic building, boundary wall, internal road construction, transport purchase, furniture, digital materials etc.

The project has been drawn in line with the Sixth Five Year Plan that highlighted the development of educational environment and raising opportunities of women education.
