CUET to protect Sundarbans

Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) on the Victory Day organized a Mass Signature program to protect the world's largest mangrove forest 'Sundarbans'.

The debating organization of the University, CUET Debating Society (CUET DS) organized the program in order to create awareness about the recent disasters at the Sundarbans.

The program was started after placing the wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar of the university on behalf of the organization on December 16, 2014 in the morning. Participation of general public with the students of school, college and university observed at the program.

Account BenefitThe organizers said that they will send a memorandum to the Prime Minister's office for taking immediate actions to prevent the natural disaster in that area and protect the fauna and only Dolphin Breeding Center of Sundarbans.

Note that, an oil tanker carrying 358,000 liters (almost 100,000 gallons) of furnace oil sank in the Shela River on December 7, spilling oil over more than 60 kilometers (about 37 miles) of the Sundarbans.

The sinking of an oil-tanker in a river on the Sundarbans has made the forest officials and environment experts deeply worried.
