Higher education in private universities

The government of Bangladesh was approved the establishment of the first private university and at the same time, the Private University Act was passed. Then again the Act was formed in 2010, and currently the universities runs under it.

There are about 79 private universities in Bangladesh, but the quality of education is not same at all of them. There are many complaints against the several universities, that's why you should be admitted with a lot watchfulness. The University Grants Commission is controlling the higher education in private and public universities.

Many advantages there: private universities degrees are so expensive. However, the poor and freedom fighters children have access to these universities for higher education. According to the Private University Act 2010, a total of 6 percent of the universities seats must be unpaid for the poor and freedom fighters children. 3 percent of them are children of poor families and the remaining 3 percent of the freedom fighters. Based on the semester result, the university authorities offer scholarships and a discount from the total course fee during the course.

Eligibility of admission: Admission requirements are vary at different universities. Most of the standard universities demands minimum GPA 3.50 in SSC and HSC separately (without the fourth subject) for admission. But students can be applied to many universities with (GPA-2.50). Applicants have to seat for the admission test in spite of having these qualifications at standard universities. The merit list is created based on admission test results and SSC, HSC results. Applicants must have a better preparation to be admitted at the prestigious private universities.

Admission opportunities in three times a year: Private Universities have the admissions opportunities in three times a year. Spring, Summer and Fall. Usually almost all universities are operating students' admission in these three semesters. The admission process for 'Spring' semester begins in December-January at most of the universities. 'Summer' starts in April-May and Fall starts in August-September. Several universities are allows admission in the 'Winter' and 'Autumn' session. Many university's admission process is now underway. Application forms can be collected from the website or the Admissions Office. Fill out the form correctly, passport-sized photos to be added. And to be submitted the SSC and HSC certificates, attested copy mark-sheets and testimonials.

Many private universities in the country are going forward preserving the quality of their teaching. Private Universities are playing a great role in the higher education sector."

Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University, Professor Syed Saad Andalib said, "In the past, higher education was in control of the government. 90 decades of the last century, private initiatives for higher education have been recognized and the private universities showing bright examples to promote higher education in this country since then. We're expecting private universities will go ahead like this."
