Law degrees have always been among the most sought-after and widely respected courses to study at a university.

A law degree is the first step along the path to a career in the legal sector, often followed by the further study and training needed to become a practicing solicitor or barrister.

However, this is certainly not the only reason to study law at university. Law degrees are notoriously challenging, and for many students, the attraction lies in the unique combination of human interest and intellectual stimulation provided.

The Faculty of Law, University of Dhaka (DU) established in 1921, has been in the vanguard of legal education in the territory now comprising Bangladesh. Although it is important to understand the technical aspects of the law, it is equally critical to see law in its complex social context and, thereby, gain an appreciation of the law as a vehicle for the pursuit of social as well as legal justice. In addition to all the basic classes which are considered necessary to a legal education, DU offers courses, seminars, and workshops which both reflect the professional interests of DU students and also serve to enrich the learning experience.

Bangladesh is a common law country. Like other Common Law countries, Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) degree is a condition precedent to practice as an Advocate in the Courts of Law of Bangladesh. Both LL.B. and LL.B. (Hons.) degrees are offered in different Public and Private Universities. These Public Universities are: University of Chittagong, University of Dhaka, University of Rajshahi, Jahangirnagar University, Jagannath University etc and maximum Private Universities offering law degrees.
