Academic Building Expansion Work Inaugurated at JnU

JnU VC inaugurating the project

The authorities of Jagannath University (JnU) inaugurated the academic building expansion work on March 10, 2014 in the face of strong protest by the students.

The decision has been taken after the contractor company was finalized during the previous three working days although the project was approved in 2010. The seven-storied academic building will be extended up to 16 stories at an expense of Tk. 45 crore. Vice-Chancellor of JnU, Mizanur Rahman inaugurated the project.

Speaking at the ceremony, the VC said the academic building would solve the crisis of limited classroom and office space, and expressed hope that the work would be started by May 2014. He further said they had two others projects- build another high-rise academic building and two male dormitories, and added that they had been authorized to buy new land for the university.

Account BenefitIn response, JnU students and teachers postponed their protest and agitation for two days, celebrating the inauguration of the academic building extension work. When asked, JnU unit Bangladesh Chhatra League President Shariful Islam said their peaceful demonstration to recover the halls would continue and the next grand rally would be held on March 16, 2014.
