Most of the public universities in Bangladesh are giving BSc Degree in Agricultural subjects. You will be able to get Bachelor of Agricultural Education (B.Ag.Ed) degree only from Bangladesh Open University (BOU). School of Agriculture and Rural Development (SARD) is one of the six academic schools of BOU. The main objective of the school is to impart education through distance mode comprising formal and non formal programs in the field of agriculture and rural development. It offers degree, diploma, certificate at different levels including higher education leading to MS and PhD.

The Bachelor of Science in Agriculture usually abbreviated as either BSc (Agr.) or BSA or BSc (Ag.) is the first undergraduate degree awarded by university faculty of agriculture and agricultural colleges. The program is 4 years of study above Grade 12 High School graduation.

The BSc (Agr.) degree differs from a B.Sc. degree in that the courses focus on agriculture: for example, the student will study agricultural economics rather than economics. Like engineering or forestry, agricultural science courses are infused with practicality.

The BSc (Agr.) degree is normally not a general degree but requires specialization: for example, majoring in animal science, plant protection, soil science or agricultural engineering.

There are also variations on the theme internationally: for example, the Bachelor of Agricultural Economics (B.Agr.Ec) degree.

Account BenefitThe BSc (Ag.) degree in Bangladesh is typically a 4 year course under credit based semester system. The minimum qualification for entry to B.Sc.(Ag.) is Intermediate (HSC/12 years of school education) in Science (with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and/or Mathematics) or Intermediate in Agriculture stream (limited states). The curriculum is very broad and inter-disciplinary consisting of courses in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Agricultural Economics, Extension education, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Soil Science, Food technology, Animal Husbandry etc. apart from supporting courses in Basic Sciences, Humanities and Agricultural Engineering. The program also sometime includes a compulsory 1 semester of internship (Rural Agricultural Work Experience). Most of the courses are infused with practicality with emphasis on 'hands on' experience and 'learning by doing'.

Agricultural colleges and universities in industrial countries are faced with declining numbers of students and the need to carefully evaluate alternative structures and functions to meet the challenges of a sustainable food supply. Current education and research are compartmentalized into classical departments and disciplines that often ignore the complex realities of natural, agricultural, and other human-designed systems.

Communication with the agricultural industry likewise is confined to answers to specific questions that are perceived to be within the domain of specialized research and expertise. There is relative isolation from the natural resource environment and the urban society context. We propose two models for greater integration of learning activities among departments as well as moving more research and education into the field and food system. These alternative strategies broaden the concept of 'faculty' to include educators from farming, business, government, and non-profit groups, and promote team research and education within the context of the natural environment and with urban society. This type of action research and action learning can provide answers to immediate questions as well as contribute to a long-term, sustainable, locally-based food system through students who are prepared to deal with complex issues in the future.
