Nuclear Power Plant by DU students

Students of Dhaka University (DU) have developed a model of a nuclear power plant, and there will no risk of spreading radiation during the cyclone or divine-misery.

The inventors are dreaming to meet the country's electricity needs by this model.

Four students of newly established Nuclear Engineering Department of Dhaka University have created the full-fledged nuclear power plant model. Associate Professor of the Department Shafiqul Islam supervised the project. This model was created for the inter-university electricity related innovative project competition on the occasion of National Power Week.

The project is the best among the 60 innovation of the university students. The supervisor of the project titled "Model for Cost-effective Power Generation" Dr. Shafiqul Islam said it has been shown in their model that how the nuclear power plant works and how the center can be maintained during the war, cyclones and tornadoes. Two containment measures have been put in the core of a nuclear furnace "Reactor Containment Building". First containment will stop the radiation spreading outside. And the second containment will work to prevent earthquakes, tsunami, cyclone etc.

Describing the project Dr. Shafiqul Islam said the first unit of the center is main, which will be produced the steam from the uranium by the certain processes. Then the turbine and the turbine generator produce power from that steam. The electricity generating through this process will be added to the grid via transformer.

Shafiqul Islam said there is no opportunity for the radiation of a nuclear power plant to go outside. The steam produces by the turbine of the power plant that is flying through the cooling tower. There is no risk of damaging the environment or biodiversity by that steam as the steam after cooking rice are not harming.
