API students may choose to study abroad in Dublin at three elite universities in the area - Trinity College Dublin (TCD), University College Dublin (UCD), and the National University of Ireland, Maynooth (NUIM).

Trinity College Dublin was founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I, and is the oldest university in Ireland and one of the most prestigious in all of Europe. The campus has hosted some of the top Irish intellectuals for 400 years, and is located in the heart of bustling Dublin, near the River Liffey, the main shopping and club districts, and many Irish government buildings.

University College Dublin is a dynamic, modern university where cutting-edge research and scholarship provide a stimulating intellectual environment - the ideal surroundings for learning and discovery. For over 150 years, UCD has produced graduates of remarkable distinction including famous surgeons, architects, entrepreneurs and five of Ireland's Taoisigh (Prime Ministers). Perhaps the best known of all its graduates is the writer James Joyce, who completed his Bachelor of Arts at the university in 1902.

NUI, Maynooth offers students the best of both worlds - a small-town experience located within an easy commute of Dublin city. The school prides itself on being Ireland's only "university town", and the beautiful, historic campus is closely integrated within the vibrant County Kildare town of Maynooth. NUIM traces its origins directly to the foundation in 1795 of St. Patrick's College, Maynooth, and it is Ireland's second oldest university. NUIM has a long-standing international reputation for learning and academic excellence in the sciences and humanities.

Housing is in one of seven residential complexes on campus or in IFSA-Butler-operated housing a short commute away. In all housing, students purchase or prepare their own meals. Students in IFSA-Butler-operated housing may stay in their housing during vacation periods between terms

Academics:
Students apply to one college or program at UCD and take the majority or all of their classes within that college or program. Depending on the program, students may take one or two electives in another area. Students studying abroad at UCD choose to apply to one of the following colleges/programs:
