Admission test fight starts soon

As the entrance test for university admission are nearing to start, admission seekers are in a state of restlessness. For many, the tests come as the culmination of months and even years of studying, coaching and some sort of a restricted lifestyle.

All these are worthwhile, however, given the stiff competition in the admission of public universities where one can apply only twice. It is a deciding hour for the higher education seekers. Some of the country's public universities have already announced the dates for admission tests. The wheels of all admission tests will be set in motion from early September and it's likely to continue till the end of November.

Usually, medical and BUET admission tests remain at the centre of attention for the science students. Students are prompted to apply in Dhaka University (DU) in far greater numbers than previously. Dhaka University is the first choice for most of the humanities and commerce students and the second or third choice for the most science students. This year, the university will enroll around 6,200 students in total.

According to a University Grants Commission (UGC) report, there are about 35,000 seats in the country's 29 public universities excepting National University and Open University. Quite ironically, the number of students securing A+ in HSC and equivalent examinations is increasing.

One can only imagine how difficult a time it is going to be for the admission-seekers who will have to fight against many for each seat. To cream it up, it is high time for preparation for those planning to sit for their entrance tests. Many of you are attending coaching classes or have started preparation quite some time back.

Account BenefitAs the exams are only one or two months away, start taking model tests to find out your weak points, then fine-tune your skills accordingly. If you practice and study earnestly, are physically fit and mentally resolved to give a good fight, you can surely do as well as you hope to.

A lot of students apply in several universities and they have to visit from one division to another for taking the tests. A large number of students from rural areas will come in the capital for the DU admission tests alone. Those who do not have relatives in Dhaka generally stay in the university dorms, in the rooms of their seniors who also hailed from the same region. Residential students generously facilitate one or two nights stay for the admission takers-in a manner of repaying the generosity they were shown during their time of admission.

However, the harsh truth is a lot of you are not going to make it to your desired institution or subject. But, as Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho put it, "When you find your path, you must not be afraid. You need to have sufficient courage to make mistakes. Disappointment, defeat, and despair are the tools God uses to show us the way".
