Successful candidates will work at the renovated research laboratories of the Department of Chemistry where state-of-the-art synthetic methods (reactions at low and high temperatures, reactions under inert atmosphere; purification by recrystallization, thin layer chromatography and column chromatography, vacuum line techniques) of organic and organometallic chemistry are available. A new materials chemistry laboratory- will be set up with the state-of-the-art instruments - FT-IR Spectrometer, Spectrofluorometer, Gel Permeation Chromatogram, Differential Scanning Calorimeter and Optical Polarized Microscope The recruited graduate students will be trained to operate the instruments for the studies of optoelectronic and liquid crystalline properties of the new conjugated polymers.

Research collaborations will be established with the University of Cambridge and University of Bath. UK. Miami University, Oxford. Ohio. USA; and Okayama University, Okayaina, Japan for the exchange of ideas. knowledge and skills on the new- carbon-rich conjugated materials.
